Getting Started
How do I add my first magazine to the collection?
Navigate to the Magazines menu in your WordPress admin panel. Click "Add New Magazine" and fill in the details such as title, ISSN, periodicity, editor, and language. You can also upload a cover image or provide a URL to one. Once you save, your magazine will appear in your collection.
How do I add issues to a magazine?
There are two ways to add issues: 1) From the "Issues" menu, click "Add New Issue" and select the magazine from the dropdown. 2) Go to the magazine detail page (frontend) and use the inline issue creation form at the bottom. Fill in the issue number, title, publication date, and optionally upload a cover image or provide a URL.
Managing Your Collection
Can I mark which issues I own in my personal collection?
Yes! Each issue has a checkbox that allows you to mark it as "owned" or "not owned". This helps you track which issues you have and which ones you're still looking for. The status is saved per user, so different users can maintain their own collection status.
How do I organize magazines with labels?
Labels help you categorize magazines by themes or criteria you define. Go to "Labels" in the admin menu to create custom labels (e.g., "Science Fiction", "Vintage", "Complete Collection"). Then, when editing a magazine, assign one or more labels to it. You can later filter magazines by label from the frontend.
What are topics and how do I use them?
Topics are subject categories that help classify the content of your magazines (e.g., "Technology", "Arts & Culture", "Sports"). Create topics from the admin menu and assign them to magazines. You can then filter and browse magazines by topic, making it easier to find publications about specific subjects.
Advanced Features
How do I add articles to magazine issues?
From the "Articles" menu, click "Add New Article". Select the issue it belongs to, enter the article title, authors, page range, and optionally add keywords or a summary. Articles help you catalog the detailed content within each issue, making it easier to search for specific topics or authors across your collection.
Can I track authors and editors separately?
Yes. The plugin maintains separate databases for authors (who write articles) and editors (who publish magazines). Go to "Authors" or "Editors" in the admin menu to add and manage them. You can then associate authors with articles and editors with magazines, allowing you to browse collections by creator.
Technical Questions
How do I import cover images from URLs?
When adding or editing a magazine or issue, you'll find a "Cover Image URL" field below the regular upload button. Paste a valid image URL (JPG, PNG, GIF, or WEBP format), click "Load from URL", and the system will validate and display a preview. When you save, the image will be downloaded and stored in your WordPress media library.
What happens to my data if I deactivate the plugin?
Your data remains safely stored in the WordPress database. The custom tables created by the plugin (magazines, issues, articles, etc.) are not deleted when you deactivate the plugin. If you reactivate it later, all your data will still be there. Only a complete uninstall would remove the data, and that requires explicit confirmation.
Is the plugin compatible with multilingual sites?
Yes! The plugin is fully translatable and includes translations for Catalan, Spanish, and English. The theme supports language switching via URL parameter (?lang=ca, ?lang=es_ES, ?lang=en_US) and remembers your preference. Magazine data itself can include language metadata, allowing you to catalog publications in different languages.
